Online Training - Introduction to Local Government (4/2010)
Local Government Workplace Solutions have developed an online version of the popular Getting Started training course.
This module is free of charge and takes about two hours to complete. It is a good induction tool for new Elected Members as well as an effective refresher for current serving Councillors. It can also be used by CEOs as part of induction processes for their staff.
The course includes topics such as Local Government and where the sector fits into the political system, the responsibilities and boundaries of an Elected Member, an internal look at the structure of Local Government, including both governance and operational differences, an overview of the Department of Local Government and support networks for Elected Members generally.
